98% of KE’s distribution network mapped digitally: NEPRA

Author: Staff Report

According to NEPRA’s State of Industry Report 2017, K-Electric has emerged as the leader in digital mapping of its distribution network with 98 percent coverage while IESCO and QESCO had only mapped 26.3 percent and 12.8 percent of their respective networks.

Digitized mapping plays a crucial role in timely resolution of complaints as well as enhancing the overall network efficiency besides contributing significantly towards customers’ satisfaction.

On the other hand, KE’s transmission and distribution (T&D) losses have shown a progressive decrease of 14.2 percentage points from 35.9 percent in 2009 to 21.7 percent in 2017. This was achieved through continuous investments across the value chain to a better extent than other DISCOs operating in Pakistan.

As a result of continuous technical up gradation, significant reduction in T&D losses and addition in generation fleet during the same period, the number of areas exempted from load shedding in Karachi has been extended and the reliability of power supply in the city has been enhanced.

Similar improvements were observed in the Aggregate Technical and Commercial losses, where KE achieved a 13.7 percentage points decrease, as compared to 3.8 percentage points decrease achieved by state-run distribution companies.
