HYDERABAD: Sindh National Tehreek (SNT), a Sindhi nationalist party, on Monday expressed serious concerns over nonpayment of remuneration to 920 lady health workers (LWHs), who had performed election duties at different polling stations, and threatened to stage a sit-in in front of the office of the deputy commissioner, if the payment was not cleared within two days.
The SNT chairman Ashraf Noonari held a meeting with a delegation of lady health workers including Rahila Shaikh, Uzma Jokhyo, Talat Naz and Sima Sahar.
Noonari said that thousands of LWHs had performed their respective duties during the recent general elections including 920 from Hyderabad, but they were not paid despite of five days.
He further said that LWHs were not provided with food and transportation on the polling day.
In their talk to the media, Rahila Shaikh and Uzma Jokhyo said that they were not provided with any kind of facilities on the polling day despite of assurances by the district administration.
They asserted that they were told that each worker would be paid a remuneration of Rs 4000, but now they were being pressurised to accept only Rs 1000.
They termed it as ‘injustice and discrimination’.
