In a message posted on the micro-blogging site Twitter in Urdu on Sunday, senator Saeed Ghani maintained that rigging had occurred in the elections but stated that he was fully willing to take responsibility of PPP’s defeat in the metropolis. At the same time, Ghani clarified that the party had not pressured or forced him to step down from the post.
The decision comes after Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) managed to acquire a majority of the seats in the metropolis in the general elections. According to reports, the PTI won 14 out of 21 National Assembly seats and bagged 20 Sindh Assembly seats from Karachi.
Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had announced that the PTI had won 115 out of 270 NA seats.
