Pakistan deports 59 Afghan citizens at Torkham border

KHYBER AGENCY: As many as 59 (Fifty nine) Afghan citizens including four women and eight children were deported to Afghanistan by Pak border Torkham authorities here on Torkham border on Tuesday, official sources confirmed.

The official sources told that following suspension of the Torkham border, the 51 Afghan nationals who tried to enter Pak territory via deserted route in Pased Khel and other bordering areas of tehsil Landi Kotal without legal travelling documents were apprehended by the Frontier Corps (FC) and shifted to the forces cantonment for investigation.

Last day the political administration officials deported them by handing them over to the Afghan border security officials at the Pak-Afghan sharing border, Torkham. A bride who was also stranded at the border was also permitted to cross the border to Afghanistan.

It is to be mentioned here that the bride had been brought in a procession from Abottabad to take her to Jalalabad city of Nengarhar province of Afghanistan, however on the same day, the border was closed and she stayed for four days in Gagra area of tehsil Landi Kotal. Last day she along with seven of her relatives were permitted to move to Afghanistan.

Meanwhile the Pak-Afghan, Torkham border remained closed on the fifth day and all movements were restricted on the border. Dozens of loaded trucks were stranded in blockage of the border that multiplied miseries of the transporters, drivers told.

Licence: The first-ever Computerized Arms License Centre (CALC) of the province was inaugurated in district Swabi. Provincial Senior Minister for Information Technology Shahram Khan Tarakai formally inaugurated the centre by unveiling the plaque on Tuesday.

The centre has been set up under the “Computerization of Arms Licenses” Project of Information Technology Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Similar Computerized Arms License Centre have also been established in twelve other districts of the province including, Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Malakand, Swat, Buner, D.I Khan, Bannu, Kohat, Haripur, Abbottabad and Karak which will formally be inaugurated soon.

The Project aims at automating the entire process of manual issuance of arms licenses throughout the province. Citizens visiting the centers for obtaining computerized arm licenses will be facilitated through one window operation for all transactions including payment, token payment, c-payment counter, finger print, photographs, data entry and biometric record keeping etc. other features of the initiative include digitization of arm license record, on spot verification of arm license by law enforcement agencies through SMS, foolproof and accountable revenue generation and efficiency to the optimum level.

It merits a mention here that centres established in other districts have already started providing services to the citizens and so far revenue of Rs 130 million has been generated through the issuance of computerized arm licenses.

Talking on this occasion the provincial minister termed the initiative as a revolutionary step of his government towards e-governance, transparency and efficiency and said that the centers established under the project would not only provided all the required services of arm licenses to the citizens under one roof but will also save their time and resources. The computerization of arm license in the province will also help eradicate the menace of illegal arm license in the society, he concluded.

Ban: Deputy Commissioner Peshawar has under section 144 imposed ban on display/carriage of weapons, use of Tinted glasses on private and public vehicles and vehicles having fake/un-registered/applied for Numbers.

Anyone found violating this order shall be proceeded against under section 188 P.P.C. This order shall come into force forthwith and shall remain enforced for 30-days unless modified or withdrawn.
