Disney is developing an original, live-action fairytale about an African princess titled “Sadé”.

The project, “Sadé,” will follow the story of a young princess who saves her kingdom using magical powers.

The movie will focus on a young African girl called Sadé who, when her kingdom is in danger, recognizes her newly discovered magical warrior powers to protect herself and her people. With the assistance of the kingdom’s prince, Sadé gets on an adventure that will let her embrace what makes her unique and save the kingdom from evil forces.

The screen-play is written by Ola Shokunbi and Lindsey Reed Palmer. Moreover, Famuwiya will produce and Scott Falconer will executive produce through their Verse production banner. Tendo Nagenda and Zoe Kent are supervising the project for the studio. The project currently has no director attached but is set to be produced by Dope director Rick Famuyiwa.

Sade will join Princess Tiana from “The Princess and the Frog” and “Black Panther’s” Princess Shuri as leading black female characters in the Disney universe
