Sir: Currently, around the globe, the use of the social media has become very common and informal. Many means of social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedlin, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, WhatsApp, Vimeo, etc. are being used by many people, as per their needs and requirements. But, Facebook, around the globe, is the most widely used of all the above mentioned means of social media.
There is no doubt in the fact that currently, throughout the world, social media has become a very powerful tool for sharing one’s views, blogs, photos, videos, etc. with our friends on social media as per our requirements. But, at the same time, we must also admit that social media has become a headache for many of us. Especially on Facebook, we often see abusive language, filthy material, non-serious content, and a parade of useless and meaningless posts. Posting of unauthentic, fake and unreliable material have also been a common daily feature in Facebook.
An unbridled social media has already created problems for many people in Pakistan, especially for our celebrities and politicians. One’s private life is widely discussed and condemned by many disgruntled elements on Facebook; which, however, is not a good thing. In other words, in Pakistan, social media is being used as a weapon for criticizing and ridiculing others.
Accordingly, there is a need to bridle social media in Pakistan by framing strict laws for those who misuse it for their vested interests. An unbridled social media would further be adding to the difficulties of those persons who have been using it positively, as a source of social network and knowledge.
