According to a private TV channel, Imran Rasheed Siddiqui sent his resignation to caretaker Minister for Law Raza Haider Rizvi, which was accepted.
The outgoing advocate general citing reasons for quitting stated that the caretaker set up was meant to hold general elections and as the task was accomplished, therefore there was no reason to stay in the office.
The general election were held on Wednesday in which the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) bagged more than 110 National Assembly seats, while its arch-rival Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz secured more than 60 seats. The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) stood victorious on more than 35 seats.
Around 800,000 security personnel, including troops, were deployed across the country for security purposes. The Election Commission of Pakistan had claimed that the elections were held in a free and fair manner despite reservations by PML-N, PPP and Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA). However, the European Union mission termed the elections better than 2013.
