The top brass of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) decided on Friday that Shehbaz Sharif, the party president, would be their candidate for the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly.

The decision was taken in a meeting held at the party’s central office in Model Town.

During the meeting, the party leadership also decided that Hamza Shehbaz would be the candidate for the post of Punjab’s chief minister. The meeting further decided that if PML-N couldn’t form government in the province, Khawaja Saad Rafique would be its candidate for the leader of the opposition in Punjab assembly.

Meanwhile, the PML-N has started making efforts to form government in the province it has ruled since 2008 by reaching out to independent candidates.
