Sir: The candidate of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Hanif Abassi was sentenced to life in the ephedrine quota case. According to a report the special anti-narcotics court gave the candidate a life sentence, since he was accused of misusing 500kg of the controlled chemical ephedrine which he had obtained for his company, Gray Pharmaceutical, in 2010.
It is painful to mention that the country is already facing several troubles due to high rates of drug addiction and its position on the map puts it on the route for high level drug smuggling in the region. However, the verdict against the candidate is a sign of the best efforts of lawmakers to control the drug trade and we believe that such a great decision can be a lesson for those who are involved in such dangerous activities.
