Seizing repeater guns

Author: Daily Times

Sir: This refers to the recent news that the Customs authorities had successfully seized a large quantity of arms from a truck which was supposed to be carrying fresh vegetables and steel scrap at the Torkham border.

The customs agents spotted some arms packed in gunny bags, which had been concealed in hidden cavities within the vehicle and upon closer inspection they turned out to contain 305 repeater guns. Even though the driver himself managed to escape, his assistant was taken into custody and their vehicle was impounded.

This incident begs the question that how common are such routes for nefarious smugglers in the region? The authorities should always be alert and on the lookout for suspicious trucks which are being used for transportation of illegal contraband, like guns, drugs and even bombs etc. These items have become a scourge for our society and are directly responsible for destroying the peace in the country. The strict laws and rules already in place should be implemented effectively in order to punish the suppliers of such illegal things so that they never hope to repeat their mistakes ever again. So, I hope the authorities are currently doing everything in their power to beef up security in the region, so that they can prevent the transportation of such illegal items in the future as well.
