51 show-cause notices issued to different parties on violation of ECP’s code of conduct

District administration issued 51 show-cause notices on major violations to different political parties and independent candidates.

According to deputy commissioners, 1152 minor while 51 major violations of electoral code of conduct were reported from Karachi.

51 show cause notices were issued to contesting candidates who were involved in major violations of electoral code of conduct. Out of these candidates, 7 out of 8 submitted their respective replies in District South and 6 out of 22 candidates submitted replies in District west.

Meanwhile in District East only one candidate was issued a show cause notice for violating the code of conduct. The candidate has submitted his reply in District East. 5 out of 17 candidates have submitted their reply in District Central whereas one out of two candidates has submitted his response in Korangi district. Only one candidate was notified from District Malir, no response has been received from this candidate yet.

The show cause notices were issued after district monitoring teams visited constituencies and took notices of violation of electoral code of conduct. However, administrations of all six districts did not disclose how much cash penalty was levied on violators.

Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto, Abdul Aziz Memon, Abdul Qadir Patel, Dr Amir Liaquat Hussain, Faisal Voda, Dr Arif Alvi, Ali Zaidi, Dr Farooq Sattar and Rauf Siddiqui were among the violators who were issued show cause notices.

Karachi East Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ahmad Siddiqui claimed that notices were issued across the board to all violators. “We remained vigilant during election drive of candidates,” said East Deputy Commissioner.. Similar views were also given by officials of other districts.
