Sheikh Rasheed to approach SC against ECP’s decision of delaying polls in NA-60

ISLAMABAD: Awami Muslim League (AML) leader Sheikh Rasheed has decided to approach the Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday (today) to challenge the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision of postponing elections in the NA-60 constituency.

Previously on Saturday, a Control of Narcotics Substances Court (CNSC) sentenced Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi, who was Rasheed’s main contender in NA-60, to life imprisonment in the ephedrine quota case.

After the verdict, ECP had postponed the elections in NA-60.

The AML chief then challenged this decision in Lahore High Court’s (LHC) Rawalpindi bench and termed the ECP’s decision “illegal, unwarranted and unconstitutional”.

Rasheed had quoted the examples of Lahore and Manshera constituencies where the polls were not suspended after the disqualification of Maryam Nawaz and Capt (R) Safdar.

However, the Rawalpindi bench of the LHC rejected Rasheed’s plea and sustained the commission’s order regarding the poll in NA-60.
