SC pleaded to declare Nawaz, Maryam, Safdar’s houses sub-jail

LAHORE: A petition was submitted on Monday in the Supreme Court’s Lahore registry to declare houses of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar as sub-jail.

The petition was filed by Watan Party Chairman Barrister Zafarullah Khan in which he stated that two references against former prime minister were still pending at the accountability court. Nawaz Sharif held office of prime minister for three times, therefore his house can legally be declared as sub-jail, he argues.

Federation, Punjab chief secretary, home secretary and inspector general of prisons have been made respondents in the petition.

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Captain (r) Safdar were convicted and sentenced to prison for 10 years, seven years and one year respectively in the Avenfield corruption reference. Maryam Nawaz and Captain (r) Safdar, who were candidates for the July 25 general elections, were also disqualified from contesting the polls for 10 years.
