Renovation work at NSK set to be completed in December

KARACHI: The development work on the National Stadium Karachi will be completed in December, which will completely revamp the iconic venue before the next Pakistan Super League (PSL) edition. The first phase of the development work commenced right after the final of third edition of PSL and was finished before the series against West Indies had started. The work on the second phase was briefly stopped to facilitate these events – with the fans thoroughly enjoying themselves even without the roof or the stands inside the stadium. The renovation work has now, once again, gained pace in the stadium.

National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) engineer Aslam Bhutto told media about the changes being made at the venue. “The chairman boxes and the roof of the third floor in the pavilion building have been demolished and are now being constructed from scratch,” Bhutto said. “The Chairman Box ‘A’ and ‘B’ have been merged into one while new chairs will also be placed in the stands. The entire venue will have world class level facilities after the work is completed.” He added: “A German company will provide the materials for the roof and send them to Pakistan in mid-August after which the installation of the roof will commence.” International cricket returned to Karachi after a hiatus of 9 long years with the final of the third edition of PSL taking place in the city, earlier in the year. Later on West Indies also toured the city of lights and played a 3-match T20 series.
