Sir: Karachi is the biggest city of Pakistan and also one of the most populated cities in the world. Sadly its traffic is one of the worst managed in the world as well. The ever-increasing rush of heavy traffic on the roads often results in loss of human life
A majority of the people in Karachi travel in buses, minibuses and coaches, which run on the roads carrying passengers beyond their capacity as many are often seen to be seated on the roof of the buses. The traffic in Karachi is now almost uncontrollable. This is due to a lack of civic sense in our people, which results in violation of traffic rules and laws. Traffic jams, road quarrels, untidiness and damage to public property are also some consequences of this problem.
A few years ago, coaches were introduced as a relatively better and safer means of transport for commuters. However, it turned out to be no less fatal and dangerous than the passenger wagons. During the rush hour, the problem of traffic mismanagement reached its peak and people started getting trapped in traffic jams for hours before being able to reach their destinations.
Keeping these things in view, the concerned authorities are trying to take necessary measures which could lessen the problem as new roads, overpasses, underpasses are being built and widened. The government should also try to improve the performance of the traffic police. All these efforts will hopefully bring about a positive change in the city’s traffic situation.
