Soldiers at polling booths

Author: Daily Times

Sir: I am writing in response to a recent article in your newspaper, regarding the deployment of troops at around 85,000 polling stations. Security cameras will be installed at over 20,000 sensitive stations. In my opinion, this is an excellent idea which will offer many advantages.

To start with, voters will be relieved of this decision because it will allow citizens to vote freely without having to face any pressure. During the 2013 general elections, the military proved that it was only at the polling booths to provide security. They have only been mandated to ensure that no rigging takes place, which is good considering the history of elections in this country.

All in all, I must state that I am in total agreement with the chief election commissioner’s decision. I hope that the plan is put into effect as soon as possible.
