SANGHAR: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Sunday received major boost in Sanghar as Mir Darehan Khan Bugti, an independent candidate who was running for PS-41, withdrew in support of the PPP candidate Mashooque Ali Chandio.
Bugti’s withdrawal in favor of PPP candidate was announced during a public meeting held at Sanghar’s Lutko Mori. The event was also attended by Mashooque Chandio, former lawmaker Fida Dero and father of Naveed Dero – a PPP candidate for NA-215.
Speaking on the occasion, Darehan Bugti said that the decision was made after approval of Bugti tribe chief Nawab Muhammad Mir Aali Bugti. “Nawab Aali Bugti’s decision is in the best interest of the communities,” he said.
Darehan hoped that PPP, after winning the elections, will serve the people of area. He demanded improvements in Civil Hospital Sanghar, provision of gas connections and overhauling of electricity connections for surrounding areas of the constituency.
On the occasion, Mashooque thanked Nawab Mir Aali Bugti and Darehan for their support. He said that PPP would continue to serve the area people after winning the elections.
In his address, Fida Dero said that it was high time for Sanghar to compensate the local people for injustices inflicted by opponents. He appealed the people to come out on July 25 and vote for PPP so that problems could be solved.
After the withdrawal of Bugti, several communities declared PPP’s candidates on Sindh and National Assembly seats as their joint candidate.
There are three National Assembly and six Sindh Assembly seats in the district Sanghar. Sanghar’s National Assembly constituency NA-215 comprises of PS-41 (Sanghar Taluka) and PS-46 (Sinjhoro Taluka).
In PS-41, tough contest is expected between PPP and Pir Pagara-led Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA). Until now, there is strong contest between these candidates but according to locals, Bugti’s withdrawal will improve PPP’s chances.
The constituency is symbolically important as Sanghar city has been the stronghold of Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F). However, opponents have accused PML-F of rigging the elections, while they also blame the functional league for neglecting Sanghar for many decades.
Area people including Aziz Kunbhar and others said that Nawab Mir Aali Bugti’s decision regarding withdrawal of Darehan in favour of PPP candidate would bring long-lasting results on Sindhi-Balochi unity in the area.
