Islamabad: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is believed to be working towards luring sponsors for the next edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL), in a bid to ensure that they cash in even more from lucrative deals for the upcoming season. According to sources, the board might invite Chief Executive Officers (CEO) of various top firms next month – both in Karachi and Islamabad – in order to discuss the future plans about the league, through a detailed presentation. The meeting will used as a tool to showcase the increase in brand value of PSL and to subsequently tempt potential sponsors into making worthwhile deals.
Previously the board used to sell all its ground branding and other rights to a single firm rather than approaching companies individually, but now it is keen on doing it entirely on its own. Also PCB will issue call for tenders for the next season’s broadcasting rights in September, after which the title sponsor will be decided. The PCB is hopeful that the rights will earn up to three times more than what was netted previously. It is also worth mentioning that franchises are concerned about the possibility of changes in the upper hierarchy of PCB due to the changing political scenario and General Elections. The franchises are keen on seeing Najam Sethi as the Chairman PCB and will request the government to let him continue in this role, in case they are pondering over his removal. Although the sources have stated that if there is any change within the board, it will be complete.
