Erstwhile interior minister Ahsan Iqbal on Friday sent a defamation notice to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and singer Abrarul Haq.
The notice, which was filed through Barrister Mujtaba Jamal, stated that PTI’s candidate for NA-78 (Narowal II) had tried to tarnish Iqbal’s reputation on a political talk show aired on a private television network. “Iqbal has served as a public representative four times, has taught at universities and has worked as a management consultant,” said the notice. During a political gathering, the singer had claimed that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader gave Narowal’s stadium contract at Rs 7 billion.
The defamation notice demanded from Haq to retract his statements and tender an unconditional apology within 14 days or the plaintiff would look towards the court for relief.
