LAHORE: Opposition parties on Thursday strongly condemned the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) blast and proposed five-point demand to the government to curb terror activities in the province.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf also submitted a resolution against the tragic incident in the assembly’s secretariat.

Talking to Daily Times, senior members of several political parties, including PTI, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) unveiled their five-point demand to held end terrorism in Punjab.

Firstly, they asked the government to give unlimited powers to Rangers to carry out an operation in Punjab as well as the Lahore district. Secondly, they asked the government to implement the National Action Plan with true spirit.

Their third point calls for depoliticising of police while their second last point emphasises to tighten security at public places and last but not the least they advocated dispensing quick justice to the people.

PTI leaders, including former Punjab governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, Abdul Aleem Khan, Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, Dr Murad Rass, Nabila Hakim Ali, Mian Aslam Iqbal, Sadia Sohail Rana and Dr Nausheen Hamid, criticised the government for what they described as failure to provide security at public places.

They said that the government must give unlimited powers to Rangers if it was sincere to curb terrorism.

They were of the view that public places were totally insecure in the province, especially in big cities like Lahore, as Punjab police have not much manpower to protect masses after thousand of cop had been deputed on VVIP protocols.

PPP leaders, including former premier Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani who is also a resident of the Defence Housing Authority, former Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Punjab president Mian Manzoor Wattoo, legislators Faiza Malik and Sardar Shahab, also condemned the bomb blast and said that recent wave of terrorism could only be curbed by implementing the National Action Plan with true spirit.

Ch Zaheeruddin, Sardar Hasan Akhtar Moakal, Amir Sultan Cheema and Khadija Umar Farooqi of the PML-Q demanded the government to deal with extremists and terrorists with iron hand.
