The dollar, which was trading at Rs 125 in the interbank market during first half of trading closed at Rs 125.40 for buying and at Rs 125.60 for selling.
To provide strength to rupee, the central bank tried hard and made repeated interventions through different banks.
The euro closed at Rs 149.69 for buying and Rs 149.89 for selling, gaining 11 paisas.
The pound sterling closed at Rs 167.12 for buying and Rs 167.32 for selling. It remained stand firm by 61 paisas.
Kerb market: The dollar closed firm in the open currency market, said foreign exchange dealers.
The US dollar closed at Rs 129.50 for buying and Rs 129.60 for selling, gaining Re 1 from previous session’s level. Earlier in the day it was trading at Rs 129.45 for buying and Rs 129.59 for selling.
The pound sterling closed up at Rs 167 for buying and Rs 167.20 for selling, with Rs 2 upward change from previous session’s level. It was trading at Rs 166.74 for buying and Rs 166.96 for selling in early mid day trading.
The euro closed at Rs 148.50 for buying and Rs 148.70 for selling. It gained 75 paisas on demand.
