Representatives of civil society on Thursday visited the NCHR office to lodge a complaint regarding Kohistan video case. Dr Farzana Bari and Haseeb Khawaja and members of civil society met NCHR member Fazila Aliani and Chaudhry Shafique and submitted a written petition regarding the Kohistan video case.
The civil society members requested the NCHR to take cognisance of the case under Section 9 of the NCHR Act, 2012 and take all necessary measures to investigate the case properly.
It is pertinent to mention that Dr Farzana Bari and activist/journalist Haseeb Khawaja have been involved in and following this case at different forums and have better understanding of the facts offered to be at the disposal of NCHR to appear on behalf of the civil society and explain the case before commission.
Fazila Aliani along with Chaudhry Shafique accepted the petition and appreciated the efforts of civil society for coming forward to fight for justice and to bring cases pertaining to violence against women on surface.
The commission directed its legal department to take steps necessary for the protection and promotion of human rights of all those whose rights are being infringed in this case. Aliani further said, “The commission is an independent body and will ask the local administration to submit a report or will send its investigative team for fact finding, as deemed necessary.”
The commission ensured the members of civil society that the commission will take all necessary steps to reach a logical conclusion in this case.
