Is Imran Khan the supreme leader he claims to be?

Author: Haider Rifaat

When you are leading the political front and competing with the three big parties of Pakistan, the result will always be a let-down. This month, we will elect yet another political party into power through our votes. However, the question is, will our votes ever matter?

Regardless of the election outcome, Imran Khan is incapable of leading Pakistan. His inexperience in politics will lead us astray as it has in the recent past. His approach as a potential leader of this country is unappealing. Take his short-sighted party for instance, it is clear that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) agenda is focused on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa only. Imran Khan cannot and does not think beyond KP.

He plans to apply his success models in KP to other provinces of Pakistan but what he has not realised is that a majority of Pakistanis may not respond to his agenda optimistically. There are cultural barriers and repercussions of a policy. For this reason, it takes policymakers years of practice to desensitise people to a solution, keeping in mind cultural values and collective decision-making.

When will Imran Khan expose his morally depraved party affiliates as he has done with Nawaz Sharif? Pervez Khattak has seven cases of corruption on his shoulders. If that was not enough, the party had to deal with an illegal lease of 275 acres in Malam Jabba earlier this year

When will Imran Khan expose his morally depraved party affiliates as he has done with Nawaz Sharif? Pervez Khattak has seven cases of corruption on his shoulders. If that was not enough, the party had to deal with an illegal lease of 275 acres in Malam Jabba earlier this year. That said PTI is not quite a match made in heaven for Pakistan.

The most important factor to consider is Imran’s inability to lead Pakistan. His narcissistic persona has to find a place somewhere else. His sermons are mere words, and he repeatedly contradicts himself. As a politician, he hardly fits the bill and lacks leadership qualities. Imran is neither transactional nor transformational. He is, however, unpredictable.

How can we possibly forget about his stance on negotiating with the Taliban a few years ago? It backfired, as he was way out of line. His illogical conclusions and unrealistic goals will only make things harder for a layperson. PTI largely targets a younger demographic. It is a progressive and a liberal party, but these qualities do not align with most traditionalists. Therefore, there is some margin for opposition and resistance by masses if Imran Khan assumes office.

A politician doggedly pursues the other not to restore justice but to gain ultimate power. The word politics is contentious in itself. Its connotation is loud and clear. According to a report published in January this year, 1.8 million cases in Pakistan are pending in court, and many others are unreported. So, reread the issue and contemplate; who will serve justice to millions of voiceless Pakistanis? Who will come to their rescue? Is the life of an ordinary young boy or an ageing adult not important?

Perhaps, restructuring the legal system is not a priority of any political party as they are absconders from the law themselves. If a party reasons well on issues of relevance, it does not justify its ability to serve this country. Pakistan has a long way to go and the only way forward is a transparent judicial and legal system.
