Senate body orders enquiry of Modal Dini Madrassa corruption scam

ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Religious Affairs has directed to inquire the corruption scam in Modal Dini Madrassa Islamabad from FIA and suspend its former principle till investigation.

The meeting was chaired by Senator Hafiz Hamdullah at Parliament house on Friday.

Madrassa Education Board ChairmanDr Amir Tasin informed the committee that not a single meeting of the board was held for 11 years.

He briefed the committee that despite the complains against former principle over corruption charges, the ministry of religious did not take any action.

He added that the ministry has ordered to audit of Madrassa Education Board.The committee has formed sub-committee to review all matters in this regard.

On this occasion the bill, regarding handing Umra over to the ministry of religious, was reviewed in the meeting.

The official informed the committee that the bill has been sent to law division after January from standing committee. According to sources, Law Division raised a question, that why the separate funds were made in the name of Umra Welfare Funds and Pilgrim Welfare Fund?

The officials informed the committee stating, “they have sent the bill with allegation by the ministry of Law and the finance ministry is bound to reply within 15days however it did not respond in this regard.”

Member committee Raja ZafarulHaq commented,” for two years the bill was being discussed.” He urged the committee to be informed about new developments in this regard.
