Arms smuggling attempt foiled, Afghan national arrested

KHYBER: A custom official on Wednesday foiled a bid to smuggle a large cache of arms from Afghanistan via Torkham border while impounding his truck.

Reportedly, effective border monitoring measures were adopted near Torkham after the security officials received a tip-off that a large cache of arms and ammunition would be smuggled to Pakistan.

Meanwhile, a cucumber-loaded truck was inspected by the security officials, which contained 305 Turkish-made guns. Consequently, Ibad Gul, an Afghan national, was arrested on the spot and a case was lodged against him.

Further investigation is underway.

Importantly, the vehicle had successfully crossed all the checkpoints of the Frontier Corps (FC) and Khasadar troops.
