Anti-corruption files cases against five suspects over bribery, corruption

GUJRANWALA: The anti-corruption department on Tuesday lodged cases against five suspects including three government officials for committing fraud, corruption and maladministration.

Reportedly, a citizen Ghulam Mustafa filed an application accusing Abdul Rehman, Abdul Aziz, and a land record officer Muhammad Waqas of selling him a piece of land fraudulently.

Meanwhile, another citizen Amanat Ali accused sub-inspector (SI) Owais Basra and assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Zeeshan of Daska police station of detaining him without any legal reason.

He said that the police officers threatened him to nominate his name in a fake case, and after his son gave them a bribe of Rs 150,000, they released him. After investigation, the anti-corruption authorities lodged cases against them under relevant sections of law.

PTI candidate to deposit Rs 3.7 million for reprinting of ballot papers

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate for PS-53 Jamal Nasir Cheema on Tuesday was ordered by the Lahore High Court (LHC) to deposit a total amount of Rs 3,730,074 as a cost of reprinting ballot papers and posters of his constituency.

Reportedly, the provincial election commission issued a letter to the district returning officer to receive the said amount from the candidate after PTI candidate Ch Nasir Cheema was disqualified by election commission, and subsequently replaced by his son Jamal Nasir Cheema for contesting election.

Meanwhile, Jamal filed a writ petition with the LHC that PTI issued him a party ticket for PP-53, and his election symbol has been changed from ‘Goat’ to ‘Bat’.

Information minister examines arrangements ahead of polls

The provincial caretaker information minister Ahmad Waqas Riaz said on Tuesday vowed to ensure free, fair and impartial elections.

While addressing the district administrative and police officials, he said that the electoral code of conduct would be implemented in its true spirit and essence, and all candidates must respect law.

The Gujranwala division commissioner Asad Ullah Faiz, RPO Zulifqar Hameed and other officers were also present in the meeting.

He recommended the contesting candidates to obtain a prior permission while conducting corner meetings or public gatherings for ensuring essential security measure.

They further briefed the minister regarding the security measures being adopted for elections in the district.
