The Power of Confidence

Author: Nadia Ahmed Uqaili

Most of the times, we see people with the same set of skills, similar experience and identical life circumstances, competing for the same opportunity or position as we do and then they achieve their aspirations and goals. It is nothing short of being human to wonder, at these moments, why is it so? Other factors such as fate and destiny also play monumental role in their success. Of course, luck favours but keeping it aside for a moment, what do you think is the main reason behind such occurrence? Undoubtedly, it is the other’s bursting confidence or our lack thereof.

Confidence, some might say, is a magical quality, that causes the other to believe whatever one is saying to be true or at least quite possibly true. It gives off an impression, quite unlikely to be formed by any other quality, whether it being knowledge of well-checked facts or relevant past experience. It not only shows the other person that you have thorough information on the pertinent topic but also the expertise to not only handle what is for surely to happen, but also any unforeseen incidents thrown your way.

It is a familiar saying that if you believe in something strongly enough, it will come true. This is the exact logic behind the terminology of confidence. Taking the quality of being confident to an extremely personal level and thinking of it as a tool to help you reach a point, where you always believe in yourself more than the circumstances and people around you, it will always work in your favor! Start building up confidence with this very simple thought – I believe in myself because I am right and capable of whatever I think of myself to be capable of.

For example, you are giving an interview for a typing job and you are asked whether you can type 500 words in 3 minutes? You reply saying that, “Maybe if I try to”, and “I’m sure if I try I’ll be able to”, both will make completely different impressions on the person conducting the interview! The second response, full of confidence, will make you both feel a sense of satisfaction whereas the first one with shaking surety, will make you feel uneasy. This is a simple example of the power of confidence and the great thing about it is that, even if the situation gets more complex than this one, the level of confidence won’t change.

I’m aware of how to show confidence in one’s personality, when it is not naturally present. This can be very difficult. However, the beginning of the road to getting there, as discussed above, is quite simple and always worth a try. As you progress on this road, the confidence you build up along the way can be used to fuel further progress on your quest to gathering and storing enough confidence in your personality that you can secure any achievement you wish and make a positive impression on anyone you cross paths with!
