Targeting candidates before elections raise concerns: Shahbaz Sharif

LAHORE: Muslim League-Nawaz(PML-N) President Shahbaz Sharif has said that the targeting of candidates just a few days before elections is a wake-up call for all political parties.

Before departing to Quetta to offer condolences to the family of Siraj Raisani, killed in the Mastung blast, the former chief minister speaking to the media said that Pakistan’s prosperity depends on free and fair elections.

However, the fact that terrorist factions are openly targeting candidates just 10 days before elections is raising the alarm clocks for everyone in Pakistan, including the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The interim government should provide foolproof security to all candidates.

He said that only one party is allowed to campaign freely in Pakistan, while all other parties are being harassed in various ways. He called out to Punjab’s interim government and stated that they should not only offer support to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

He further said that even at the time of the tragic demise of Siraj Raisani, the PTI chairman did not bother calling off his rally or at least engaging in a more serious tone while addressing his workers. The PML-N President also said that before making accusations on others, the PTI chairman should engage in some sort of self reflection.

In solidarity with victims of the Mastung attack, PML-N has postponed its rally scheduled today as Shabbaz Sharif went to offer his condolences to the Raisani family in Quetta.
