LARKANA: Justice (rtd) Amir Hani Muslim, appointed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) to head the judicial commission on sanitation and clean water in Sindh, on Sunday inspected the ongoing construction of Combined Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP), near Umrani village of Shikarpur district.

Reportedly, he issued directives to the officials of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) to accelerate the pace of construction so that treatment of sewerage water could be performed.

He further ordered the district administration to plant more trees as a measure to improve environment and reduce pollution.

During his visit to Shahbaz waste disposal near Chandka Bridge, he expressed anger and dissatisfaction over the heaps of garbage and piles of trash lying on the ground, and enquired from the chief municipal officer (CMO) of Larkana municipal corporation (LMC) regarding mismanagement and ‘an act of irresponsibility’.

He ordered him to have an effective oversight of ensuring cleanliness and maintenance of hygiene in the region.

During his visit to the waste disposal at Nako No 7, he was irked to know about its closure while the LMC officials claimed that due to prolonged power outages, the unit was closed.

The CMO further revealed that the battery of the generator was out of order.

Justice Hani warned him that a stern action would be taken against him, if the disposal unit was not made functional immediately.

Besides, the deputy commissioner Syed Murtaza Shah, the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Shabir Sethar and other officers of concerned departments were also present on the occasion.
