ISLAMABAD: Former president and Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians President Asif Ali Zardari has condoled the death of women rights activist Nigar Ahmed who passed away on Friday in Lahore.
The former president in his condolence message on Saturday said that he was grieved and saddened by the news regarding death of Nigar Ahmed who spearheaded movement against Dictator General ZiaulHaq as a member of Women Action Forum in 1980s. She was a beacon of hope for the urban and rural women alike, he added.
Zardari said Nigar Ahmed worked all her life for women social, economic, legal and political empowerment, adding thatthe brave woman was awarded Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah Life Time Achievement by the PPP government in 2010 for her services for Pakistani society, especially women.
“She was co-founder of Aurat Foundation, an organization synonym with women empowerment in Pakistan. She will be remembered by her friends, followers and democrats,” the PPP stalwart added in his message.
