GUJRANWALA: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khurram Dastgir Khan on Saturday publicly voiced solidarity with Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz in a joint press conference and vowed to join hands with the former premier in his struggle.

Reportedly, PML-N leaders including former MNA Shazia Sohail Mir, candidate for PS-54 Imran Khalid Butt, candidate for PS-58 Abdul Rauf Mughal and others were also present in the conference.

“No power can stop us from loving Nawaz Sharif, and criticising the accountability court’s verdict against him is our constitutional right,” Khurram said adding that the party’s brave workers foiled the provincial caretaker government’s plan, and reached Lahore for welcoming the party’s leader.

They further criticised the Punjab police and the administration for restricting PML-N workers from reaching Lahore, and claimed that their caravans were stopped at Qilla Chand, Toll Plaza and Kalashah Kaku. “The police fired teargas on our workers, tortured them, broke windows of our vehicles and lodged cases against us,” they alleged adding that our workers were being considered as ‘Indian troops’. Meanwhile, they vowed to continue election campaigns, and asserted that the general public would cast vote to PML-N on July 25.

Commissioner visits Wazirabad Institute of Cardiology, expresses satisfaction

The Gujranwala division commissioner Asadullah Faiz said on Saturday that the Wazirabad Institute of Cardiology (WIC) is the state-of-the-art hospital with efficient physicians and advanced healthcare facilities.

Reportedly, he visited WIC along with the deputy commissioner Dr Shoaib Tariq Warriach, hospital in-charge Dr Wahid Ahmed, Wazirabad assistant commissioner Solat Hayyat Watto, medical superintendent (MS) Dr Shabbir Ahmed, Dr Maqsood Mansoor Alam, Dr Wajid, Tehsildar Nadeem Butt, and other doctors and paramedical staff.

“The residents of Gujranwala and nearby districts do not need to travel to Rawalpindi and Lahore for heart surgery and treatment of cardiac diseases,” he said.

He urged the doctors to perform their duty honestly and sincerely, and asserted that the government would provide all essential facilities to them.

While expressing satisfaction over functioning of the hospital, he announced cash prizes for the doctors, who operated heart surgeries of two patients successfully on the opening day.
