Commissioner inspects restoration work of Derawar Fort in Cholistan desert

BAHAWALPUR: The Bahawalpur Commissioner Nayyar Iqbal on Saturday inspected the ongoing restoration work of Derawar Fort, a standout attraction in the Cholistan desert, and urged to zealously preserve the landmark architecture.

“The nostalgic allure of Derawar Fort is the custodian of a very rich and splendid cultural heritage of the entire country,” he said while adding that the restoration work must be done with utmost care in order to keep the fort intact for generations to come.

The Cholistan Development Authority (CDA) managing director Waseem Anwar Khan and officers of the concerned departments accompanied him.

The officers informed him that the total cost of restoration has been estimated to be Rs 101.6 million, and so far the CDA received Rs 34 million which are being used for the restoration of the front wall of the fort, its first entrance gate, Bara Dari, construction of a platform in front of the fort and roads.

The commissioner further ordered them to speed up the work.

Later, he visited the shrines of saints, Shahi Masjid and Shahi graveyard, and enquired about the issues of residents of the area.
