Sir: Transgender persons are born different from normal human beings through normal parents but the irony begins when they get abandoned by their families. The abandonment compels them to live in groups and communities as outcasts of mainstream society. They are not treated as normal human beings due to their unusual female like gestures. Society does not accept them but as a tool of entertainment and lust. In such culture where people are not ready to treat them as normal, how will they think about their welfare and respect?
They have equal rights to get education, health facilities and job opportunities. Due to unavailability of mentioned facilities, they are living in severe poverty.
Their miserable situation left them no option except going door-to-door begging. No serious efforts or legislation had been made for their rights and welfare. They have been paying the price of being born as transgender in form of deprivation of their rights.
There must be a campaign on a larger scale to promote awareness to the families where such births take place not to desert them to the path of humiliation because they have not been created to dance in functions or pacify the desires of lustful people.
Awareness is rising gradually through media and as a result the government has taken some steps for their well-being. They are being registered to be counted in the next population census campaign. They are issued National Identity Cards. But that is not enough and more needs to be done to make their life easier.
Besides this, television dramas, talk shows and documentaries can pave the way to save them. Writers, intellectuals can put their thoughts to change people’s views in order to give them suitable place in society.
