Smugglers will bring Qatari letters in their defence: Aitzaz

LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) central leader Aitzaz Ahsan has said that if Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif’s stance is accepted then smugglers can bring Qatari letters to court in their defence.

“Nawaz Sharif’s stance cannot be accepted nor should the court accept his plea. If the court accepts this explanation then it can create financial chaos in the country. If the PM’s stance is accepted then a smuggler will bring Qatari letters to the court to defend themselves,” he said while talking to the media after casting his vote in the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) elections.

He said that the Supreme Court (SC) had to decide the Panamagate case. “Nawaz Sharif has admitted to being the owner of the Sharif family’s London flats. The SC should have summoned the PM and heard him. The court should have asked questions from him about the London flats.”

He observed that Qatari, Iranian and UAE’s letters could slide the country into financial chaos.

He went on to say that it had become clear that Nawaz Sharif and his children owned properties abroad. “These properties have been purchased out of the money plundered from the country. The way Nawaz Sharif wants to justify plundered wealth through his stance, it cannot be accepted in any way,” he added.

Regarding the court’s remarks that the NAB has died, he said it was an unfortunate thing. “The SC should have revived the dead NAB,” he added.

He also said that if the Pakistan Super League final did not take place in Lahore then it would be considered a failure of the government.

Appreciating security arrangements at the bar associations, he said he was also allowed to enter after he had shown his identity card and the bar membership card.
