The Minister was briefed by KPT Chairman Jamil Akhter about infrastructure and ongoing projects. Other projects discussed during the visit included Shuttle Freight Train Project, Chemical and Edible Oil Terminal and Cargo Village and Industrial Park.
The Minister expressed his satisfaction with the progress made on the Shuttle Freight Train project. Chairman informed the Minister that KPT was taking Pakistan Railway on board for the enhancement of cargo transportation.
Highlighting performance of KPT, Chairman informed Abdullah Hussain Haroon that KPT could effectively handle 54 million (mn) tonnes of cargo. He added that, in a few years, KPT would break the 75 mn tonnes cargo handling barrier due to South Asia Pakistan Terminals (SAPT). He added that SAPT would remarkably increase the cargo handling capacity of KPT.
The chairman and trustees of KPT also gave the minister a tour of the Port area to show him the ongoing cargo handling and dredging activities.
Abdullah Hussain Haroon appreciated efficiency and speedy work progress on the occasion and issued necessary directives.
Later, the federal minister also visited the South Asia Pakistan Terminal Limited and reviewed its progress.
