ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s nomination papers were challenged in the Supreme Court on Thursday.
Petitioner Masood Ahmed Abbasi appealed to the Supreme  Court to reject the former premier’s nomination papers from NA-57, Rawalpindi for the July 25 general election. The petitioner asserted that the former premier should be charged with misrepresentation of facts in his nomination papers.
He argues that the Lahore High Court’s decision should be declared void and Khaqan Abbasi should be barred from contesting the July 25 polls. Chief Justice of Paksitan, Justice Mian Saqib Nisar ordered that a bench be constituted on Ahmed Abbasi’s petition.
On July 29, a two-member bench headed by Justice Mazahir Ali Naqvi of the LHC allowed Abbasi to contest from his home constituency of NA-57, Rawalpindi and declared the tribunal’s decision of disqualifying Abbasi null.
The divisional bench of the LHC had dismissed the tribunal’s order against Abbasi, however the Supreme Court’s verdict is yet to come.
