GUJRANWALA:NA-81 is one of the key constituencies in Gujranwala, Punjab. It consists of urban areas including Satellite Town, Civil Lines, Peoples Colony and Model Town. Their rural counterparts in this constituency are Aroop and Vania.

Since 2008, NA-81 (previously NA-95) has been won by Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz (PML-N). Khurram Dastagir Khan, former defense minister, is PML-N’s candidate for this constituency. In the 2013 elections he was PML-N’s candidate in the neighboring constituency of NA-96. His opponent in NA-81 is Pakistan Tehreeeke-Insaf (PTI) candidate, Chaudhry Muhammad Siddique, who was formerly the member of Pakistan Peoples Party(PPP). 11 other candidates are also contesting for this seat.

Though this constituency has historically voted PML-N, most voters are dissatisfied and say nothing much has changed. Trash heaps are visible on every street corner. Residents complain about the poor infrastructural development and the fact that have very few outlets to clean water. Perhaps these election will bring a change? Probably not.
