Three gunned down in attack over old enmity

GUJRANWALA: Three people including a woman were gunned down on Wednesday while one person sustained severe injuries in an armed attack fuelled by an old enmity.

Reportedly, Nawaz Bhinder, along with his son Gohar and wife, was on his way to district and sessions court for hearing of their case when assailants opened fire on them. Resultantly, they died on the spot while the driver was left injured. They were rushed to the DHQ Hospital. The area police have initiated investigation into the matter.

Man kills brother-in-law over dispute with wife

A man killed his brother-in-law on Wednesday over a domestic issue at Maraliwala in Gujranwala. Reportedly, 25-year-old Atiya had a dispute with her husband Ronaq Ali, and consequently went to her parents’ home. Meanwhile, Ronaq arrived there and quarreled with his brother-in-law Abdul Aleem. During a fit of rage, Ronaq opened fire on Aleem, who died on the spot while Atiya received bullet injuries. They were rushed to DHQ Hospital while the area police initiated investigation into the incident.

Anti-corruption files cases against three police officers for taking bribe

The anti-corruption department on Wednesday lodged cases against three police officers for their alleged involvement in bribery and malpractices.

Reportedly, a citizen Amjab Mehmood filed an application with the anti-corruption department accusing sub-inspector Muhammad Altaf and assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Nasir Ahmed of taking a bribe of Rs 250,000 from him for discharging a case in Dhulley Police Station. Meanwhile, a citizen Zulifqar Ali accused ASI Muhammad Ashraf of receiving Rs 5,500 from him in Kotli Loharan police station for recovering his property from land grabbers. After investigation, the anti-corruption department lodged cases against them.

FIA arrests eight human traffickers

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Wednesday arrested eight human traffickers during a crackdown against them in the cities of Mandi Baha-ud-Din, Sialkot, Gujrat and Gujranwala. Reportedly, the FIA deputy director Mufakhir Adeel informed that the accused including Yasir Hameed, Ghulam Murtaza, Imtiaz Ahmed, Muhammad Munir, Ahmad Ilyas, Asad Raza, Sajjad Ahmed and Akmal Shahzad transported people abroad illegally.
