Nawaz, Maryam returning home as if they’ve won a world cup: Imran Khan

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan berated Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supporters on Tuesday, saying they were preparing to welcome ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz as if they were returning home “after winning the World Cup”.

“Nawaz Sharif has won the world cup of corruption. He was ousted for corruption, and now he is asking people to give him a grand reception,” he thundered.

Addressing a public gathering in Basham, Khan said the father and daughter duo had stolen more than Rs300 billion from the country and would not be allowed to return so easily. “Robbers who should be sent to jail are instead being sent to the assemblies, and if those harming the country are roaming around free, why should small-time crooks be sent to jail,” asked the PTI chairman.

Khan also lashed out at Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari, saying Sharif and the PPP leader, he termed “Godfather of dacoits” were in cahoots with each other. If Nawaz is involved in rigging, then Zardari helps him out, Khan claimed.

Later while addressing a rally in Buner, the PTI chief said every government left behind two things – an empty treasury and Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Khan said he had struggled for decades to make people realise that corruption was the biggest issue facing the nation.
