‘Propaganda against my joining PPP aims at destroying PPP’

KARACHI: Irfanullah Marwat on Sunday said the daughters of the former president, Asif Ali Zardari, have been misinformed regarding his joining the Pakistan People’s Party.

“In this regard, I have had several meetings with Asif Zardari, and after settling the misunderstandings, I decided to join the party,” Marwat stated.

“We had discussed issues pertaining to the political scenario of the metropolis as well as the future strategy for strengthening the standing of the party,” he added.

“After looking into the source of these allegations, it is believed that a senator from my constituency is behind this mess and is meddling in these affairs for ulterior motives,” Marwat alleged.

The move is reportedly aimed at maligning Zardari in order to achieve certain aims.

Marwat claims that his decision to join the PPP aims to restore legitimate and constitutional rights to the people of Karachi because, in his view, they have been deprived of their rights for far too long.

Political pundits believe that this maneuvering by the two politicians aims to strengthen the party in order to get better electoral results in the next general elections in 2018.

The PPP is eager to increase the number of national and provincial seats in the city as a vacuum has been created after the weakening of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
