Kanye West’s style evolution

Mr Bright side – after his hospitalisation in November 2016, Kanye West emerged with blonde hair. So casual – in 2016, the rapper became the king of athleisure, always sporting his popular Yeezy sneakers and comfortable high end athletic gear.

Yeezy Season – West sported a sweater from Yeezy Season 1 in 2015, which many referred to as “hobo-chic.”

Coordinating couple – West’s style is so iconic it rubs off on his significant others. Kim Kardashian and West stepped out for date night in 2014 wearing matching Balmain suit jackets.

No face, no case – West, who was commonly referred to as Yeezus in 2013, wore a face mask in his highly praised tour of the same name, as well as during public appearances such as this one at the Martin Margiela fashion show.

Kanye in a kilt – for his Watch the Throne Tour with Jay Z in 2011, West sported a kilt along with gear designed by Givenchy’s Ricardo Tisci.

Risk taker – in 2011, Kanye West introduced us to his fearless risk taking ability by sporting a Celine woman’s shirt for his Coachella performance.

That old Kanye – the “Stronger” rapper elevated his style yet again in 2010, wearing sophisticated well tailored suits.

The devil is in the details – West made one of his signature looks all red. Here the shirtless performer wears a suit with an oversize chain at the BET Awards in 2010.

Sorry PETA – in 2010, West and his then-girlfriend Amber Rose sported complimentary fur jackets to the Louis Vuitton fashion show in Paris.

Denim on denim on the don – West championed street style in 2009, pairing basics denim basics with high end elements.

Louis Vuitton don – the self proclaimed “Louis Vuitton Don” changed his nickname to “Martin Louis the King Jr” after designing a pair of sneakers for the Paris fashion house that walked the runway in 2009.

Heartbreak ‘ye – around the time of the release of West’s fourth album ‘808s’ and ‘Heartbreak’ in 2008, West sported tailored suits with his heart on his jacket-literally. Everything designer – for a period of time in 2007, West couldn’t be spotted without a scarf-designer of course.

King of the club – the “Gold Digger” rapper championed the club attire in 2007 with graphic tees and his signature shutter shades.

High fashion ‘ye – West’s obsession with high fashion began in 2006. Here, he took a more casual approach by incorporating a designer T-shirt with streetwear.

Teddy bear – in 2004, West was infatuated with stuffed teddy bears-featuring them as a mascot on his first three album covers and always sporting a Ralph Lauren Polo.

College dropout – when West first appeared on the scene as a rapper, he mastered the preppy boy style, seen here in 2004 with argyle sweaters and sneakers.
