Mahira talks about juggling work and motherhood

Mahira Khan is attending her third film festival this year and we wonder how she does it all. During the Pakistani film festival in New York, Mahira Khan gave her two cents about balancing motherhood with acting.

Revealing that she was still feeding her son Azlan when she joined the sets of Shoaib Mansoor’s ‘Bol’, Mahira Khan said: “Everyone there on the sets was surprised at me working while feeding Azlan and even I was at times, because this was 9 years ago. Just imagine.”

Further emphasising on this, Mahira added: “The thing is, and I think this is the best quote ever invented as far as babies and moms are concerned, a child gives birth to a mother. You just have to adapt. Yes, you have a child but the child has given birth to a new you and you know exactly what you’re supposed to do. It’s harder, it’s difficult, not easy.”

Mahira also stated that she couldn’t have done it all without the support of her parents and Azlan’s father. She also pondered upon the fact that male actors aren’t asked this same question nearly as much as female actors. She voiced this simply by saying that “I think dads should also be asked these questions as well.”

About PFFNY, Mahira stated that she would love to see other films be included, because there will be more actors from Pakistan attending the festival and watching Pakistani movies. “Our films need to go out there in the world and people should be able to see that ‘okay this is Pakistani cinema and this is what people are doing’,” she said.

When asked which film she thought would be great for international viewership, she immediately said ‘Cake’.

Mahira has recently made a new resolution of making more time for herself and her son, “It’s difficult to let go of some great things but I have a personal life. I have Azlan and he’s growing up real fast. He’ll be in the fourth grade soon and he has test weeks and what not coming up and I have to keep all of that in mind when working,” she concluded.
