ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday shifted Captain (r) Safdar Awan to Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail.

Earlier today Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Captain (r) Safdar was presented before the accountability court after being arrested on Sunday.

NAB team presented Safdar before the accountability court after which he has been shifted to Adiala jail to serve his year long sentence as a result of Avenfield reference verdict of July 6.

The Federal Judicial Complex in G-11 sector Islamabad was under strict security measures with deployment of elite force, rangers and police officials. Owing the strict security concerns, media was barred from entering the complex premises.

Media officials attempting to enter the court’s premises were manhandled by the police.

Earlier on Sunday, NAB officials arrested Safdar from a public rally in Rawalpindi. With 3000 people around PML-N leader’s car, Safdar reached Hanif Abbasi’s election office where the NAB team officially arrested him.

Accountability bureau had earlier issued a notification stating that Safdar was hiding in his hometown Mansehra, while raids were being conducted in Abbottabad and Haripur for his arrest.

Accountability court on July 6, 2018  had announced its verdict in Avenfield reference sentencing Nawaz 11 years imprisonment along with a £8 million fine, while Maryam 7 years imprisonment and £2 million fine. Whereas Captain (r) Safdar recieved a one year imprisonment.
