SEHWAN: 11 days since the Sehwan Sharif Blast, the security situation at the Shrine remains relatively the same.

No female constable is deployed but about a 100 male personnel are on duty in and around the shrine.

A visitor stated that the absence of a female constable was a worrying issue.

ASP Sami also confirmed no female enforcer had been deployed at the shrine.

The security measures taken after the sorrowful incident include the sealing of seven out of the eight doors of the shrine and 40 out of the 48 CCTV cameras are operational but there is not a view of what’s happening outside the shrine because of lack of CCTV cameras.

The incident, in which more than 90 people were martyred, highlighted the lack of security of the shrine.

Life is slowly returning to its normal bustling self, in and around the shrine but security is still an issue and even after the incident no ambulance or rescue vehicle is parked nearby even though the nearest healthcare facility is quite some distance away.

Devotees have started coming back in numbers but question marks still hang over the security situation and visitors still feel vulnerable to incidents such as the recent one.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has instructed authorities to enforce strict security in and around the shrine and Director Inspector General (DIG) Establishment also stressed that Data Gunj Bukh’s shrine’s security plan should be enforced at the Shrine but no plan has been put into action yet.
