ISLAMABAD: One of the country’s leading multinational group Engro, recently joined hands with Afzaal Memorial Thalassemia Foundation (AMTF) in its fight against thalassemia advocacy, awareness and treatment.

The Blood Donation Drive was held at Engro Head Office, where employees from Engro Energy, Engro Fertiliser, Engro Foods and Engro Corporation participated with great zeal and fervour for this noble cause. Under the powerful slogan, “You Give, They Live”, this year’s blood drive was spearheaded by the energy vertical of the group, Engro Energy.

Thalassemia is an inherited disorder that leads to the decreased production and increased destruction of red blood cells. As it is inherited, the disease afflicts a patient since childhood and regular blood transfusions are required. According to estimates, every year there are around 7,000 new cases registered in the country.

Under the guidance and management of its executive director Ateequr Rahman, AMTF has been making huge strides in its battle against thalassemia across the country. Expressing his gratitude, he thanked Engro Energy for their immense cooperation and contribution for fighting thalassemia in the country. It is with initiatives like these where major companies like Engro can assist in AMTF in their efforts to help the afflicted children deal with the disease and prevent new cases.

In line with his core values of giving back to the community, Engro Energy is always looking forward to be part of such initiatives as transfusion of blood and blood products that helps in saving millions of lives every year. It can help patients suffering from life threatening conditions live longer and with a higher quality of life.
