GUJRANWALA: The City Police Officer (CPO) Moeen Masood on Saturday vowed to implement the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in its true spirit and essence, and issued directives to the officers to ensure free, fair and impartial upcoming general elections in the district.
Reportedly, he said that a stern action would be taken against aerial firing, wall chalking, hate speech, misuse of loudspeaker, and display of weapons. He had further ordered the police officers to launch a crackdown against the unlawful possession of arms, and as a result 68 weapons were recovered while 53 cases were lodged against the alleged criminals. Moreover, he appealed to the residents of the district for cooperating with the police officers by informing them regarding any suspicious activity in their respective regions.
Motorist crushed to death
A motorist lost his life on Saturday in a head-on crash with a speeding car on GT road in Gujranwala. Reportedly, 25-year-old Zahid rammed into a car near Khiali Shahpur, a town in Gujranwala district. He breathed his last while being rushed to a hospital.
Traffic police arrests six for one-wheeling
The traffic police officers on Saturday arrested another six youths in a crackdown launched against the menace of one-wheeling that has been rampant in the recent years.
