NSC reiterates resolve to fight terror financing

A meeting of the National Security Committee on Friday vowed to fulfil its commitment to fight money laundering and terror financing.

Caretaker Prime Minister Justice (r) Nasirul Mulk chaired the huddle, which was attended by top civil and military leadership, including Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar, Defence Minister Lt Gen (r) Naeem Khalid Lodhi, Foreign Minister Abdullah Hussain Haroon, Finance Minister Dr Shamshad Akhtar, Interior Minister Muhammad Azam Khan, Information Minister Syed Ali Zafar and others.

Finance Minister Shamshad Akhtar briefed the participants on the deliberations during meetings of Financial Action Task Force and International Co-operation Review Group held in Paris.

She also briefed the attendees on the economic situation of the country.

The meeting also held discussions on the government’s action plan on fulfilling its obligations regarding the FATF decision.

Pakistan was added to the grey list of countries involved in providing monetary assistance to terrorism and related causes, after a FATF meeting confirmed the decision on June 28.
