GUJRANWALA: The Divisional Commissioner Asad Ullah Faiz on Friday vowed to ensure a greater degree of transparency in the upcoming general elections-2018.
While addressing a press conference, he also urged the media to ‘cooperate’ and support the district administrations and play a constructive role for conducting free, fair and impartial elections. Meanwhile, the additional commissioner coordinator Noman Hafiz, information director Tahir Mehmood, assistant commissioner general Anjam Riaz Sethi and journalists were also present on the occasion.
The commissioner further pledged to implement the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in its true spirit and essence.
“All deputy commissioners have been ordered to keep a vigilant eye on the election campaigns being held in their respective districts, and take a stern action against violators,” he said adding that warnings were already issued to the candidates in this regard.
He claimed that a list of violations would be forwarded to the ECP for further action against the candidates.
Meanwhile, 100 candidates have been served notices for violating ECP’s code of conduct. Later, he briefed the media about the measures being adopted for maintaining cleanliness in the city.
Anti-corruption arrests land record officer in fraud and bribe case
An anti-corruption team on Friday arrested a land record officer for taking bribe from a citizen.
Reportedly, Ghulam Haider filed an application accusing land record officer Rizwan of receiving a bribe of Rs 50,000 for the issuance of deed of his property. However, he issued him a bogus land deed.
After investigation into the matter, an anti-corruption team raided on the house of the accused and arrested him.
Woman dies, her daughters injure in deadly accident
A woman lost her life while her two daughters sustained injuries when a truck rammed into a rickshaw at GT road.
Reportedly, Kausar along with her daughters Laiba and Tayyaba were on their way on a rickshaw, when a speeding truck ploughed into them.
Resultantly, Kausar died on the spot while further investigation is underway.
