ISLAMABAD: Deputy Chairman Senate, Senator Saleem Mandviwalla on Friday observed that there was huge scope for enhancing trade and investment between Pakistan and Canada as the current level of trade and investment was not up to the mark.

He said that business companies of both the countries could explore more business opportunities for mutual benefit of the people of two sides. He expressed these views in meeting with Canadian Ambassador Perry John Calderwood here at Parliament House.

Both sides discussed matters of mutual interest and exchanged views of different issues including trade, investment, parliamentary cooperation, challenges posed by climate change, student visa issues and others.

He said that Pakistan highly values its bilateral relation with Canada and desires to further expand these friendly ties. He underscored the need for enhanced parliamentary interaction and people to people contacts.

He said that Climate Change is a burgeoning threat to our lives and economies and there is need to make joint efforts to mitigate the negative affect of climate change.

The Deputy Chairman Senate also recalled his recent visit to Canada where he had a fruitful interaction with Forum of Federation along with his delegation.

Canadian Ambassador agreed with the views of Deputy Chairman Senate. He said that security situation in Pakistan is improving and more parliamentary cooperation would pave the way for enhanced linkages between the two sides.

He said that exchange of information and expertise with regard to climate change would help in building local capacity to deal with the challenges posed by climate change.

The Deputy Chairman Senate expressed his well wishes to the government, parliament and people of Pakistan.
