Traffic police instructed to ensure easy flow of traffic by dismissing encroachments

LAHORE: The city traffic police continued a crackdown against fixed and moveable encroachments and other hurdles on the roadsides, which are creating problems for traffic flow across the city on Thursday.

In this regard, traffic police had issued warning notices to shopkeepers against the encroachment and illegal parking stands that genuinely interrupt the flow of traffic mainly on all busy roads, markets, shopping malls and bazaars around the city.

The citizens are now also aware about traffic situation on major roads across the city through new established messages service started by city traffic police with the collaboration of Safe City Authority Punjab before commuting anywhere in the city.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Captain (r) Liaquat Ali Malik said that traffic police initially tried to educate the road users and other citizens about traffic laws and how to implement on these rules during drive to save themselves and others. He said that encroachment and other illegal activities like illegal parking stands, wrong parking are also the major cause of road blocked.

He directed the superintendent police to keep vigilant eyes on roadside illegal parking lots and encroachments to keep the flow of traffic. He said that he had issued strict instructions to all the traffic police officers of the city, in order to ensure a better flow of traffic and give more comfort to the public going to their work. He said no hurdles would be tolerated on the road otherwise strict action would be taken against the responsible people.

On the issue, DSP Saddar Abdul Ghani along with his team, held a crackdown against encroachment near Kharak Nala Multan Road toward Sabzazar area and cleared the road for commuters. The DSP said that due to encroachments, the local residents as well as other road users, faced a serious problem of blocked traffic issue on daily basis in this area. The main purpose of this crackdown is to clear the road for public, he added.

The CTO said due to comprehensive awareness campaigns across the city, better results were received from the people who personally coordinate with police and administration to demolish their encroachments and other illegal activities on the city roads. He said traffic police has started crackdown against those who created problems to maintain traffic flow and cases would be registered against them under section 290 and 291.
